Sadeeq Yusuf continues incredible run as Kwara United extend unbeaten run in NPFL

Heartland, Akwa United win, Abia Warriors in trouble

Sunshine Stars marksman, Sadeeq Yusuf scored for the 6th consecutive NPFL game this season as his side fell to a 2-1 loss at home to Kwara United. Yusuf gave the Akure Gunners the lead with a fine finish from a tight angle for his 7th goal this season before academy product, Adeshina Gata drew the Afonja Warriors level with a fine strike. Stephen Jude scored the winner in the 84th minute to complete the comeback and send Kwara United up to 2nd place on the NPFL log. Kwara United are currently on a club record 7-game unbeaten run in the NPFL.

Heartland triumphed over MFM 2-1 in the Fidelis Ilechukwu derby to move out of the drop zone for the first time this season. Emmanuel Adachi scored from the penalty spot to give Heartland the lead at the Soccer Temple, before Muyiwa Balogun equalised for the home side. Heartland however had the final say through Jimoh Gbadamosi who netted the winner.

Akwa United recorded a third consecutive win in this season’s NPFL as they routed Katsina United 3-0. Talismanic captain and striker, Ndifreke Effiong opened the scoring with a calm finish from inside the box, before Charles Atshimene made it 2-0. Effiong scored the third goal from the penalty spot to secure all three points for the Promise Keepers.

Jigawa Golden Stars defeated basement boys, Adamawa United 1-0 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna. The Golden Stars sealed the win thanks to a cheeky backheeled goal from Abdullahi Musa Lala. Adamawa United have failed to win a single game this season, and remain rooted to the bottom of the NPFL standings.

Rangers International secured a slim 1-0 victory over visiting Warri Wolves at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in their Matchday 9 NPFL encounter. Christian Nnaji scores the only goal of the game for the Flying Antelopes who rise to third on the standings.

Lobi Stars and Wikki Tourist played out a drab goalless draw in Makurdi, both teams now find themselves languishing in mid table.

Abia Warriors lost their first match in 5 as they fell to Dakkada FC at the Nest of Champions in Uyo. Dakkada took the lead through Aniekan Ekpe from the penalty spot, before Kokoette Udo doubled their lead with his first goal of the season. Abia Warriors pulled one back on 90 minutes as midfielder, Fatai Abdullahi scored from a direct freekick. Warriors remain second from bottom on the NPFL table.
