Mohamed Salah has revealed Jurgen Klopp‘s reaction to the backlash received after his little tournament jokes.
The Liverpool manager came under serious criticism after labelling the Africa Cup of Nations a little tournament.
Klopp was again asked to clarify his statement by a Nigerian journalist but he maintained his stance and never offered any apology.
To which Senegal coach Aliou Cisse blasted the German for disrespecting the tournament and calling the German a nobody without his African stars.
But Salah has revealed that his club manager never meant what he said and that he actually wished him he and his Egyptian teammates win the tournament.
“Klopp was saying it as a joke, he wants us to come,” said Salah during his pre-match conference ahead of clash against Nigeria.
“He told me, he wishes me to win, I don’t know what he told Mane.
“In England they regard the AFCON as a big tournament.”
Egypt will starts their African Cup of Nations campaign with a clash against Nigeria on Tuesday.
