Samson Siasia names Nigeria’s All-Time Best XI, snubs Kanu and Mikel Obi

Former Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia, has unveiled his selection for Nigeria’s all-time best eleven, choosing several of his former international teammates while snubbing some iconic figures like Kanu Nwankwo and Mikel Obi.

In an interview with Edafe Matthew, Siasia opted for Vincent Enyeama, Nigeria’s most capped goalkeeper, in goal, ahead of 1994 AFCON hero Peter Rufai.

At left-back, Siasia selected Ben Iroha, while Augustine Eguavoen earned the nod at right-back. In the heart of defense, Siasia preferred former AC Milan player Taribo West and Uche Okechukwu.

Siasia’s midfield trio consists of Mutiu Adepoju, Sunday Oliseh, and Austin Okocha, with the omission of Chelsea icon John Obi Mikel intentional.

On the flanks, Siasia chose Emmanuel Amunike and George Finidi, leaving out the likes of Nwankwo Kanu and Yakubu Aiyegbeni.

Up front, Rashidi Yekini, Nigeria’s greatest goalscorer and a 1994 AFCON winner, takes the center-forward position in Siasia’s favored 4-3-3 formation.

Notably, Siasia expressed admiration for Chinedu Obasi Ogbuke, whom he considers the most gifted player he ever coached. However, Ogbuke was not included in the best eleven due to his absence from Nigeria’s World Cup squad.
