Sancho set for Borussia Dortmund return in loan deal amid Manchester United struggles

In a bid to escape what has been described as a “nightmare” stint at Manchester United, England international Jadon Sancho is reportedly on the verge of securing a loan move back to Borussia Dortmund.

The winger, who made a high-profile £75 million ($95m) move to Old Trafford in the summer of 2021, has encountered significant challenges in the ongoing 2023-24 campaign.

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, accused Sancho of allowing his standards to slip in training, leading to the player’s exclusion from the squad since August 26.

Sancho has been compelled to work within the confines of the Red Devils’ academy system during this period.

According to reports from Bild, an exit route has been identified during the January transfer window, with Sancho poised to return to Germany on a short-term loan deal.

The arrangement is said to cost Borussia Dortmund a mere £2.6 million, providing the 23-year-old with an opportunity to revive his professional career in familiar surroundings.

It is suggested that some minor tax details need to be finalized before Sancho can make the move official.

There is speculation that he could potentially join Borussia Dortmund at their Marbella winter training camp as early as Friday, potentially allowing him to participate in a friendly match against AZ Alkmaar on Saturday.

Jadon Sancho boasts an impressive track record with Borussia Dortmund, having recorded 50 goals and 64 assists in 137 appearances for the club. However, his performance dipped after moving to Manchester United, contributing only 12 goals and six assists across 82 outings.

Despite making three appearances off the bench at the beginning of the current campaign, Sancho has since found himself in a state of exile at Old Trafford.
