Sani Zubairu is new President of Nigeria Referees Association

Alhaji Sani Zubairu is the new President of the Nigeria (Football) Referees Association. He succeeds Otunba Tade Azeez who bows out after eight years in office.

The Bauchi born retired FIFA Referee was elected President at the 2023 delegates conference of the Referees Association held at Bovina Hotels in Kwara State on Saturday April 29.

Zubairu clinched the top job with a landslide 54-0 win over his challenger Elder Olokor. The new executive committee of the Referees Association were thereafter sworn into office for a four-year term.

Apart from the office of President, Deputy President and Financial Secretary, other elective positions were returned un-opposed.

8. Asst. Secretary General – Fabidun Fidelis 54votes

9. Deputy Secretary General – Col. Achikasim Nicholas – 53votes

11. Vice President II – Umaru Fegge 54votes

In his acceptance speech, the NRA helmsman thanked delegates for voting them into office while pledging to use his experience having served as Deputy President in the previous regime to better the lot of Referees in Nigeria.
