Sanusi finds the net as Porto defeat Bayer Leverkusen

Super Eagles defender comes off bench to give Portuguese giants lead in tough encounter

Super Eagles defender Zaidu Sanusi was on the scoresheet for FC Porto in their 2-0 win over German side Bayer Leverkusen. The former Santa Clara left-back opened the scoring shortly after his introduction into the match.

After losing to Club Brugge in their last match, Portuguese giants FC Porto needed a good result to get their qualification hopes back on track.

With both sides deadlocked, Porto manager Sergio Conceicao turned to his bench and introduced 25-year-old defender Zaidu Sanusi in place of Wendell in the 63rd minute. Seven minutes later, the change paid dividends.

The Nigerian defender showed great athleticism to cover the length of the pitch and power home a header following an accurate cross from Mehdi Taremi. It was his first goal of the 2022-23 season for the club.

Porto continued to dominate affairs and added a second late in the game through Galeno. The forward latched onto a through pass and took a shot, which came off goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky before nestling in the back of the net after 87 minutes.

The visitors finished the game with ten men as Jeremie Frimpong received his marching orders in the 88th minute of the encounter as Porto held on for an important win at Estadio do Dragao.
