Second half goals power Kaduna past Plateau as Delta and Yobe settle for draw

Two second-half goals were good enough to earn Kaduna State women hockey team a hard-fought 2-0 win against Plateau State for their first win of the 2018 National Sports Festival.

Nothing could separate both teams after the first 30 minutes of intense Hockey but Nguvan Aben and Onyedum Justina combined to help Kaduna break the deadlock in the 37th minute.

Nguvan Aben drove in from the right beating three players and while on the verge of falling down she managed to hit the ball upfield for Onyedum Justina who was waiting on top ‘d’.

She stopped the ball and while it was in she hit a powerful shot that struck the board for the first goal.

The second goal came in the 49th minute. A stroke was awarded for a goal bound ball when Alfa John was fouled by Izang. Alfa John stepped up and converted to increase her side’s tally to two.

In the second game of the day, there was no separating Delta State and Yobe State as both teams settled for a goalless draw.

The men will start their games tomorrow with Plateau State tackling Abia State and FCT tackling Delta later in the day.

Fixtures for tomorrow:

Plateau State vs Abia State 1 pm
FCT vs Delta State 2:30 pm
