Semi Ajayi Joins Hull City on Two-Year Deal

Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi has signed a two-year contract with Hull City after leaving West Bromwich Albion. The club also has the option to extend the deal by another year.

The 31-year-old has played over 200 games in the English Championship, with spells at Rotherham United and West Brom. Last season, he struggled with hamstring injuries and only managed 14 starts for West Brom, three of which came after November.

Ajayi, who has 43 caps for Nigeria, was released by West Brom last month. Now, he’s ready for a fresh start with Hull City.

Speaking to the club’s website, Ajayi said he was excited to join the project:

“I’m really excited. I spoke with the sporting director and head of recruitment, and they explained the club’s plans. They want to challenge at the top of the league — and so do I.”

Ajayi believes his experience and leadership will help Hull City:

“I’ve played in the Championship for years. I’m strong in the air, quick, and comfortable on the ball — those are the qualities Hull are looking for. I’m hungry to prove myself again.”

Ajayi also thanked West Brom for six good years but said he’s now fully focused on helping Hull climb up the table.

Hull City narrowly avoided relegation last season and are looking to bounce back stronger. With Ajayi on board, the team gains a player who was key in Nigeria’s recent Unity Cup win over Ghana and played a big role at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

In 177 matches for West Brom, Ajayi scored 13 goals and made three assists.
