Sevilla comeback insufficient as Haaland sends Dortmund to UCL last 8

Norwegian striker sets three records in one night

Borussia Dortmund’s 20 year old superstar, Erling Braut Haaland scored a sensational brace to help his side progress to the quarterfinals of this season’s UEFA Champions League after winning 5-4 on aggregate against Sevilla.

Haaland gave his club the lead in the 35th minute to make it 1-0, continuing from where he stopped three weeks ago after scoring a brace in the first leg 3-2 win. He doubled their advantage after 54 minutes from the penalty spot in a quite bizarre fashion that saw his goal disallowed, then a penalty awarded which he missed, before a retake was ordered and he found the net. Sevilla pulled one back through Morrocan striker, Youssef En Nesyri in the 68th minute from the penalty spot, before En Nesyri once again found the back of the net in the 96th minute to tie the game 2-2. It was however not enough to help his side qualify, as they were sent crashing 5-4 on aggregate.

Haaland has now scored 20 goals in the Champions League in just 14 matches in the competition aged just 20, making him the youngest player to ever reach 20 Champions League goals, as well as the fastest player to 20 Champions League goals ever, eclipsing Harry Kane’s record of 24 games by a whopping 10 games. The youngster also became Norway’s all-time leading scorer in Champions League, surpassing Manchester United great and current manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
