Shooting Stars Edge CS Sfaxien in CAF Confederation Cup
Shooting Stars of Ibadan started their CAF Confederation Cup campaign on a positive note after beating Tunisian side CS Sfaxien 1-0 at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta on Saturday.
Lucky Emmanuel scored the only goal of the match in the 25th minute, giving the Nigerian side a deserved lead before half-time.
CS Sfaxien returned from the break with more attacking intent and put Shooting Stars under pressure as they looked for an equaliser.
However, the Shooting Stars goalkeeper stood firm and made important saves to keep the Tunisian side at bay.
The Nigerian club also defended well, with the backline remaining organised throughout the second half to deny CS Sfaxien a clear route to goal.
Shooting Stars had chances to double their lead late in the game but were unable to make the most of them.
The 1-0 win gives Shooting Stars a slim but important advantage heading into the second leg in Tunisia next weekend.
The Ibadan club will now look to complete the job and secure progress to the next stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.
