Sierra Leone Vs Nigeria: Keister targets win over Super Eagles

Head Coach of the Sierra Leone national team John Keister has revealed his boys will fight to achieve its target of a win over the Super Eagles of Nigeria when the meet in a 2023 AFCON qualifiers on Sunday June 18.

The game, a penultimate fixture in the qualification series for the Ivory Coast 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament will see Keister’s men miss out on qualification if they fail to win vs Nigeria.

Ahead of the game, Nigeria occupy second spot in group A with nine points and will book a spot at the 2023 AFCON with at least a point on Sunday over Sierra Leone who are third on the log with 5-points.

In his pre-match comments, Keister acknowledged the Leone stars understand the task at hand and will take to the turf against Nigeria ready to fight for the maximum points to keep their hopes of qualification alive.

“We know this is a match that we need to win, and therefore we have to be positive in our approach against a difficult Nigerian side – and we will definitely be,” Keister told Football Sierra Leone.

“We are a young group, but there is just this feeling that we can come here and get a result against Nigeria. It’s going to be a fight

” We are ready to deal with whatever is thrown at us. Football is about the day who wants it the most.” he said.

The game between Sierra Leone and Nigeria will take place at the Samuel Kanyon Stadium in Monrovia, Liberia on Sunday June 18, 2023.

Nigeria were 2-1 victors over Sierra Leone in the first leg decided in Abuja, Nigeria on matchday one of the qualifying series.

Sierra Leone have won just two of their seventeen previous meetings Vs Nigeria, a poor stat Keister’s men will look away from as they prepare for the game.
