SOURCE FOR ALTERNATIVE MEANS OF PAYING PLAYERS SALARIES, NANPF URGES CLUBS

National Association of Nigerian Professional Footballer, NANPF, the body that is mandated to monitor and fight for the welfare of Nigerian players frowned at how players are being owed by Nigerian football clubs without sourcing for alternative ways of payment of salaries and bonuses of the players who are the main actors that are capable of making or mar the efforts of the managements.

According to the players’ union, to get the best from these players, they needed to be well motivated through prompt payment and when that is done, they will play with their heart on the field in order to get a desirable result for the club.

The secretary general and former Nigerian international Austin Popo Uwua said: “The days of delaying the release of money as an excuse to owe players their salaries and bonuses should be a thing of the past, clubs should henceforth search for sponsors, bank guarantee and or partnership as an alternative way of getting money available to pay them (players) their entitlements.”

“Clubs should know that if players are not owed such team will not only get the best legs they will also get the best results for the clubs in all competitions they find themselves,” he continues.

“Any club that is still owing players should pay their debt before decisive action is taken against such club. We know almost all the clubs are not exonerated from this act but we shall step on toes and there will be no sacred cows when the sanitization starts”.
