South-Side Hockey Academy resumes training after death and burial of one of its founder Tokoni Joy Ogbe, set for friendly against Rivers State teams

Six weeks after the demise and burial of one of South-Side Hockey Academy, Bayelsa State, founder, Mrs. Tokoni Joy Ogbe, the academy is back on the field again.

The death of Mrs. Tokoni Joy Ogbe was a big blow to the academy as her loss was a difficult pill to swallow. Tokoni Joy Ogbe was the joint founder and coach of the academy before her demise.

After weeks of mourning, Engr. (Mrs) Ifiemi Tulagha-Ocholi the co-founder of the academy has returned to the pitch with her players.

She said this is to honour her friend, and partner who will be glad to see the club achieve its set out goals.

“Going back to the field without Tokoni Joy Ogbe was very tough, but I know she would not be happy seeing the academy go down with her.

“I know how passionate she was about this project and what she invested in it so it is only wise that we go back to the pitch in honour of her and the players we are grooming,” said Engr. (Mrs) Ifiemi Tulagha-Ocholi.

The South-Side Hockey Academy  just like all other academies, craves support of individuals as it is a privately run club aimed at promoting Hockey culture among Bayelsan children and teenagers.

“We need support. Basically with equipment. That has been a big challenge as it has stopped us from going to primary and secondary schools to source players which is supposed to be the next phase.

“I am determined to make sure the dream of raising young lads across Bayelsa state doesn’t die irrespective of the fact that I lost my colleague,” said Engr. (Mrs) Ifiemi Tulagha-Ocholi.

Engr. (Mrs) Ifiemi Tulagha-Ocholi also revealed that the club has been invited to play in friendly games against River State teams in Portharcourt.

“The South-Side Hockey Academy has been invited to play against River State teams on the 13th of April. Our boys and girls will tackle the River State players.”
