Sporting Lagos gets their first-ever NPFL security breach sanction
NPFL new-boys Sporting Lagos FC have received their first-ever security breach sanction for fan-trouble during their week-nine fixture vs Heartland FC.
Sporting Lagos FC had to fight from behind to rescue a 1-1 draw at home vs struggling Heartland FC in front of their fans.
During the cause of the match, a section of the home crowd threw objects onto the playing pitch as their team struggled for an equalizing goal which eventually arrived in stoppage time.
For this reason, Sporting Lagos have been charged for breaching the Framework & Rules of Nigeria Premier Football League in the course of their match against Heartland last Sunday.
The NPFL board said the club breached rules after their supporters threw objects onto the pitch during the course of the week-nine match.
Sporting Lagos have been fined N1 million for failing to provide adequate security and are directed to pay the fine within 14 days to avoid further sanctions.
The club have been ordered to implement an effective matchday security arrangement and organise a reorientation programme for their supporters.
Sporting Lagos have been warned that any recurrence of the offence will lead to stiffer sanctions.
Sporting Lagos have 48 hours from the date of this notice of sanctions to appeal.
