Victor Osimhen thrown out of open training by Napoli coach Spalletti

Super Eagles star making the headlines for antics

Africa’s most expensive player and SSC Napoli striker Victor Osimhen was in the news for the wrong reasons again after his club manager Luciano Spalletti sent him for an early shower in the team’s open training session as they prepare for the 2022-23 season. The Super Eagles star has had his name in the news all week long for his off-the-field antics.

Osimhen, Napoli’s main striker, was on the receiving end of a crunching tackle from teammate Leo Ostigard during the training session in front of the club’s fans, and the manager refused to call a foul against the Norwegian defender. Osimhen proceeded to show his displeasure by ranting at the manager and Cameroon midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, who was talking with him.

When he had seen enough of the striker’s petulance, Spalletti ordered him to take off his training bib and head back to the dressing room. On his way out, the 24-year-old continued to remonstrate with winger Matteo Politano before disappearing down the tunnel.

This behaviour comes just days after his sister and her husband accused the Super Eagles striker of owing them €69,000 and $439,000 as they helped to broker his transfer to Napoli from Lille. The striker replied on his Instagram story by simply typing “Amazing actors” and “wonderful” accompanied by a number of laughing emojis.

Victor Osimhen is expected to shoulder a lot of Napoli’s attacking burden this season following the exit of Lorenzo Insigne to FC Toronto. After claiming the Serie A’s Young Player of the Year award in 2021-22, many expect Osimhen to deliver the goods this season. Getting on his manager’s wrong side is a terrible way for the striker to start his season.
