Squash: 1st Chief Olusegun Obasanjo National Open Championship Starts In Ogun State

The 1st Chief Olusegun Obasanjo National Squash Open Championship for Senior and U19 Boys and Girls finally kick started in Ogun State this Tuesday.

Playing in three squash courts across the State, the OOPL Squash Court, the Alake Sport Centre Court and the Ake Palace Court.

The first centre occupied the Senior Men while the second centre was for the Senior Women with the U19s playing at the third centre.

Day 1 saw the men’s Round of 32 matches serving off, Nigeria’s No1. Sodiq Taiwo brush off O. Omietimi in two games of best of three, 11-4, 11-5 in less than 20mins of play.

O. Olamilekan outshine Steven Peter 11-9, 11-5 in two straight games in less than 25mins of action.

No9. Seeded player Aliu Quadri spent just 15mins in the court as he ran over Ajao Olusegun 11-3, 11-2.

Garba Enimakure, seeded 8 was all over Adelaja Taiwo in 20mins of action to win 11-2, 11-5.


Seeded No5. Femi Shedera out muscled Moses Elekenachi 11-7, 11-1 to progress into the Round of 16. 

Dele Pratt was too good for Abiodun Osho who he defeated 11-3, 11-5 to advance into Rd 16.

Adegoke Temilodun outshine Faruk Sulaiman 11-3, 11-8 to progress into the next round
Nigeria No5. and seeded fourth for the championship, Kehinde Samuel of Ogun State over powered Shutu Adeola 11-8, 11-5 to earn a place in the Round of 16.

Injury ravaged Abel Shedrack of Ogun State and Nigeria’s No3. defied his level of fitness as he took Christopher Obasuyi to the cleaners with a score of 11-5, 11-2.

Alozie Chibuzor couldn’t get the better of Lanre Pratt as he lost 11-6, 11-3 to exit the championship.

Titah Jamal won 11-5, 11-3 against Omotayo Dele to zoom into the Round of 16 of the championship.

Seeded No.6 was Gabriel Olufumilayo and he make no mistake to dispatch Asade Olawale 11-3, 11-3.

Victor Daniel was too good for Otuya Joshua as he won 11-4, 11-2 to earn a place in the next round of the championship.

Abubakar Ismail hit no ball as he walked over Elija Taiwo and thus progress into the Rd 16.

11-4, 11-6 was the score between Abdullahi Olamilekan  and Osamuyiwa Felix as the former progress to the last 16.

Nigeria no2. Abdulrahaman Lanre of Lagos won 11-6, 11-8 over Akintoye Dare to move to the next round of the championship.
