Stage set for Enyimba-Rivers United CAFCC showdown in Aba

Rivers receive #20 Million incentive from state governor

Nigerian football giants, Enyimba and Rivers lock horns on Sunday 14th of February 2021 in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba. Rivers United defeated South Africa’s Bloemfontein Celtic 5-0 on aggregate to reach this round, while Enyimba dropped into the CAF Confederation Cup after they got eliminated by Sudanese side, El Merreikh 4-2 on aggregate in the CAF Champions League playoffs.

Both teams would look to serve up a blockbuster fixture when they face off. Enyimba are currently top of the Nigerian Professional Football League, with Rivers United only three points behind in second place. Enyimba coach Fatai Osho will be looking to continue with his famed Sugar ball style and be looking at red hot striker, Tosin Omoyele to continue his brilliant goalscoring form for them against the Pride of Rivers. Rivers United have Godwin Aguda to count on, with the midfielder having scored in all 4 of his CAF Confederation Cup fixtures to date for his team. Another key player to look out for is Enyimba’s marauding left back, Imo Obot who has the ability to wreak havoc on opposing defences from his position in defence, as well as their silky left winger Anayo Iwuala who has scored twice and assisted twice in the NPFL this season. Rivers United have a potent attacking threat with Fortune Omoniwari and Stephen Gopey also able to cause trouble in the opposition box, as well as powerful midfielder, Bamba Bakary.

Enyimba are the league’s form side, having picked up 12 points from the last 12 available, with Rivers United picking up 6 in the same time frame. Rivers United have been promised a cash reward of 20 million Naira by Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike for an away win, making the fixture even more interesting. The game will be aired live on NTA and the NPFL.tv app for all to watch from 4pm on Sunday.
