Stanley Nwabali bags 8th clean sheet of the season as Chippa United gun-down Richards Bay

Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali kept his 8th clean sheet of the season as Chippa United FC gunned-down 10-man Richards Bay 3-0 in the South African Premier Soccer League on Wednesday, March 6.

One of the shinning lights at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, Nwabali was making his second appearance for Chippa United following a silver-medal winning AFCON campaign as Super Eagles of Nigeria first-choice goalkeeper.

Against Richards Bay, despite facing minimal threats from the visitors, Nwabali remained composed and assured between the sticks throughout the game to bag a clean sheet as Chippa United flourished in front to goal.

Chippa United took an early lead in the 7th minute courtesy of Justice Chabalala. The lead was doubled just five minutes later by Craig Martin. The task for Richards Bay was made even more challenging when Abdi Banda received a red card in the 54th minute.

Capitalizing on their numerical advantage, Chippa United extended their lead with a third goal scored by Kayden Francis in the 74th minute to seal a 3-0 win.

With his latest clean sheet, Nwabali has now accumulated eight clean sheets in 17 appearances in the PSL this season.

He currently trails Mamelodi Sundowns’ and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, who leads the PSL golden gloves list with 10 clean sheets in just 13 games.
