Stella Mbachu Predicts Perfect WAFCON for Super Falcons
Former Super Falcons star Stella Mbachu believes Nigeria will win every match at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco and bring home the trophy.
The Super Falcons are nine-time champions and go into the tournament as favourites. But they face strong challenges from defending champions South Africa, 2022 runners-up Morocco, and a rising Zambia team led by star forwards Barbra Banda and Racheal Kundananji.
Despite the tough competition, Mbachu is confident in Nigeria’s chances.
Speaking on Brila FM’s Sunday Sports, she said:
“The Super Falcons will win every game at the WAFCON. They will not lose any game in the tournament, you will see. They will come home with the trophy.”
Mbachu, who played 89 times and scored 20 goals for Nigeria, believes the current squad has enough talent and experience to win again.
The team, coached by Justin Madugu, is in strong form. They recently beat Ghana 3–1 in a friendly in Morocco, after earlier drawing 0–0 with Portugal and defeating Cameroon 2–0 in Abeokuta.
With a mix of experienced stars and new talent, the Super Falcons are aiming to win the title for the first time since 2018. They have also not lost to an African team in over three years.
Morocco, who knocked Nigeria out in the 2022 semi-final, will be dangerous at home. South Africa are also strong contenders, and Zambia’s fast attackers make them a threat.
Still, Mbachu’s prediction is clear — she believes Nigeria will win it all.
