Steph Curry won the 2022 All Star MVP award after a blistering performance for Team LeBron in their 163-161 win over Team Durant in Cleveland on Sunday.
With this year’s All Star Game holding in Cleveland, it was special for Steph Curry and LeBron James, both of whom were born in Akron, Ohio.
Steph Curry led all scorers in the game with 50 points, including a record 16 three pointers made. The NBA great broke the record for most career three pointers in the league this season, and took his impressive shooting to the All Star Game.
With the All Star three points record of nine threes made having been set by Paul George, Curry set out to break his record. He scored eight 3’s in the first half to set a new record for most 3’s scored in a single half of the All Star Game.
The Golden State Warriors star ended the game with 16 3’s and 50 points, earning him the MVP trophy. LeBron James ended the game with an incredibly difficult shot over Zach LaVine to give him a fifth straight win as captain of Team LeBron.
During the game, Team LeBron won the first quarter 47-45 and lost the second quarter 46-49. The third quarter ended 45-45 before Team LeBron won it in the final quarter through their captain LeBron James.
James scored 24 points for his team as the incredibly competitive Giannis Antetokounmpo, last year’s All Star MVP, scored 30 points for the side in addition to the 50 from Steph Curry. For Team Durant, Joel Embiid recorded 36 points and 10 rebounds, and newbie LaMelo Ball contributed 18 points in his debut appearance.
As a result of the win, Team LeBron won $450,000 for the Kent State I Promise Scholars Program, and Team Durant won $300,000 for the Greater Cleveland Food Bank.
Personally, Steph Curry raised another $108,000 for the Cleveland Metro School District. He raised $1,000 for every point made, $3,000 for every three-pointer made and $10,000 for being named the All Star MVP.
