Steph Curry Snubs LeBron James When Naming NBA Legends He’d Love to Play With
Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry left LeBron James off his list when asked to name three NBA legends he wishes he could have played alongside.
Curry, 37, is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in NBA history. He has spent his entire career with the Golden State Warriors, winning four NBA championships, two MVP awards, and a Finals MVP.
Despite often being grouped with all-time greats like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James, Curry did not include LeBron when asked in 2023 to name his dream teammates.
Speaking on Dubs Talk with Monte Poole and Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area, Curry said:
“My top three, I’d probably say [Michael] Jordan, Shaq [Shaquille O’Neal] and maybe Hakeem Olajuwon.
I’d like to play with all three of those guys because I think Jordan – you just wanna see it up close and personal.
A pick-and-roll with me and Hakeem or me and Shaq would be pretty much unstoppable.”
This omission raised eyebrows, considering Curry and LeBron have faced each other in multiple NBA Finals and are both considered modern-day greats.
Interestingly, Michael Jordan also made headlines in the same year for snubbing Curry. When asked about the greatest point guard in NBA history, Jordan reportedly messaged ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith:
“Magic Johnson is easily the best point guard of all time. Steph Curry is very close, but not in front of Magic.”
Magic Johnson, who played his whole career with the Los Angeles Lakers, won five NBA titles and was named NBA MVP three times.
Despite the snub, Curry still believes he belongs in the GOAT conversation. When asked by former player Gilbert Arenas if he considers himself the best point guard ever, Curry replied:
“Yes… It’s me and Magic, is that the conversation? Obviously, I have to answer [myself]. But Magic’s résumé is ridiculous.
The fact that we’re even having that conversation is a place I never thought I’d be in.”
Curry’s confidence and achievements continue to fuel debates among fans and analysts over who truly is the greatest point guard of all time.
