Stephen Curry reflects on retirement: ‘The end is near’
Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry, at 36, is contemplating the conclusion of his illustrious NBA career. In a recent interview, Curry shared that he thinks about retirement “more than I probably have before,” acknowledging that accepting the approaching end allows him to fully appreciate the present.
Despite these reflections, Curry remains a pivotal player for the Warriors. In August 2024, he signed a one-year, $62.6 million contract extension, securing his place with the team through the 2026-27 season. This extension makes him the first NBA player to earn over $60 million in a single season.
Curry’s performance this season continues to be strong, averaging 21.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 6.6 assists per game. However, he is mindful of how he wants to conclude his career, expressing a desire to avoid a scenario similar to Kobe Bryant’s final years with the Los Angeles Lakers, where the team struggled competitively.
The recent acquisition of Jimmy Butler has also influenced Curry’s perspective. Teammate Draymond Green revealed that this move prompted an emotional conversation, with Curry recognizing the urgency of making another championship run, realizing that this might be their last opportunity with the current core group.
As Curry approaches the twilight of his career, he remains focused on competing at the highest level, aiming to add another championship to his already impressive resume.
