Sunday Oliseh Backs Wilfred Ndidi as Next Super Eagles Captain

Former Nigeria international Sunday Ugochukwu Oliseh has endorsed Wilfred Ndidi as the natural choice to become the next captain of the Super Eagles.
With Ahmed Musa no longer involved in the team, despite not officially announcing his retirement, and William Troost-Ekong expected to step aside after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, talks about the team’s future leadership have grown stronger.
Speaking on his Oliseh Insight Podcast, Oliseh said Ndidi has the charisma, respect, and consistency needed to lead the national team.
“At the moment, I think nobody doubts the respect the players have for Ndidi. And he’s a player that plays every game,” the former Super Eagles captain said.
“I’m not trying to decide who should be captain, but I think Ndidi is already the captain anyway because he captained the last game.”
Ndidi, who currently plays for Turkish club Besiktas, has been a key figure in the Super Eagles midfield for almost ten years. He is widely admired for his professionalism and natural leadership.
If chosen, his appointment would mark a fresh chapter for the national team as they prepare for AFCON 2025 and upcoming international competitions.
