Sunshine Stars anounce signing of SIXTEEN new players in mid-season
Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure has bolstered their squad with 16 new signings as they gear up for the second phase of the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). The club has also promoted three players from their youth team to further strengthen their lineup.
In a strategic move to improve team performance, the Owena Whales have secured the services of both domestic and international players. Among the new signings are Waheed Adebayo, Daniel Edeh, Liman Ahmadu, and Alao Dabani, all from Lobi Stars. Other key additions include Okeke Vincent (Bendel Insurance), Edafe Vincent (Remo Stars), Ebuka Anaekwe (Kwara United), and Chukwudi Esobe (Heartland).
Additionally, Sadiq AbduRazak (Niger Tornadoes), Buhari AbdulAfeez (Osun United), Amia Kenneth (Katsina United), Henry Elum (Shooting Stars), Uche Onwuasonaya (Shooting Stars), Ajibola Matthew (Lobi Stars), Tosin Akinyemi (Ekimogun), and Tunde Adesua (unattached) have also joined the club.
The three promoted youth players are Ariyo Ikulamberu, Christopher Richards, and Samuel Matthew.
Bamidele Ologunloluwa, the club’s president, highlighted that the new signings were crucial following the team’s performance in the first phase of the league. “We are excited to welcome these players into our fold,” Ologunloluwa said. “These players are well-known, both within Nigeria and internationally. We ask for the continued support and prayers of our fans and stakeholders to help lift the team up the league table.”
Technical Adviser Abubakar Bala is optimistic about the squad’s potential, emphasizing the importance of creating healthy competition across all positions. “Our goal is to build a team that competes at the highest level,” Bala stated.
