Super Eagles abroad weekend round-up: Lookman, Aribo, Osimhen star

Moffi hits form for Lorient as relegation battle heats up

It was a productive weekend for Super Eagles abroad, with a number of exceptional performances from some of Nigeria’s star players in Europe.

Victor Osimhen contributed to both goals scored by his side SSC Napoli in their 3-2 defeat at the hands of Fiorentina in their Serie A match. The Super Eagles striker assisted Belgian forward and club record scorer Dries Mertens to equalise for Napoli and make it 1-1 in the first half with an intelligent cutback. He also scored a belter on the half volley late in the game to make it 3-2. It was the Super Eagles forward’s 12th Serie A goal of the season.

Two-cap Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman scored his first Leicester City goal since February in a 2-1 Premier League win over Crystal Palace. The 24-year-old winger got on the end of an intelligent through ball from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to put the Foxes ahead in the game.

Super Eagles midfield maestro Joe Aribo scored a terrific goal for Rangers in a 4-0 win over St Mirren in their SPFL clash. The midfielder curled in an effort from outside the box to round off the scoring for the league champions. Leon Balogun did not come off the bench, and Calvin Bassey was not included in the squad for the game.

Terem Moffi is working his way back to contention for a place in the Super Eagles as he scored a brace for FC Lorient in a relegation six-pointer against Saint-Etienne as his side won 6-2 to move four points clear of the drop zone. Moffi scored from the penalty spot after 42 minutes to pull one back for his side and make it 2-1. He scored his second in the 86th minute to make it 5-2 for his side. He also assisted his side’s fourth goal with a pass to Malian striker Ibrahima Kone. The striker now has seven Ligue 1 goals this season.

Samuel Chukwueze was one of the Super Eagles abroad to have an impressive weekend. He warmed up for his side’s UEFA Champions League second leg clash against Bayern Munich with an assist as a weakened Villarreal side held Athletic Bilbao to a 1-1 draw in their La Liga match. The Super Eagles winger assisted Alfonso Pedraza’s equaliser in the game.
