Super Eagles AFCON qualifiers venues confirmed

Eagles to return to Lagos for first time in 20 years

The venues for the final two qualifying games for the 2022 AFCON involving Nigeria’s Super Eagles have been confirmed by the country’s apex footballing governing body, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF). Nigeria are set to do battle with neighbours, Benin Republic and Lesotho in the last two rounds of games in the qualifying series.

Nigeria’s match against Benin Republic has been fixed for 5pm on March 27th at the Charles de Gaulle Stadium in Porto Novo, a stadium where NPFL side, Rivers United defeated Bloemfontein Celtic in the CAF Confederation Cup this season. NPFL side, Enyimba’s central defender, Nabil Yarou is expected to be a part of the Squirrels’ squad that day after he received a call-up from the national team.

The last match of the group phase against Lesotho will take place at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos. This would be the first time since January 2001 that the Super Eagles hold a competitive fixture in Lagos. The match is scheduled for March 30th by 5pm. The Super Eagles need good results from both games to secure their ticket to the tournament in Cameroon after a third place finish in the last edition.
