Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro reveals he has taken enough ‘vaccine’ for criticism ahead of Angola clash
Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro says he has taken enough ‘vaccines’ for criticism from fans, as he prepares for the Nigeria vs Angola 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quater-final match on Friday, Febuary 2, 2024.
Peseiro has faced criticisms from fans during his time as Nigeria head coach but has impressed at the AFCON, helping the Eagles to the last-8 in a tournament that has produced a lot of shocking results.
Ahead of the team’s quarter-final clash against Angola in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Peseiro remains undeterred and focused on the task at hand.
Since taking over as coach of the Super Eagles two years ago, Peseiro has faced challenges in winning over the confidence of fans, particularly during matches against seemingly easier opponents.
However, the team’s recent performance in the 2023 AFCON has seen an improvement, with three wins in four games and conceding just one goal.
Despite the positive turn of events, some fans remain unimpressed, and the pressure could intensify if the Super Eagles fail to secure victory against Angola in the quarter-finals on Friday.
Nevertheless, Peseiro maintains a calm demeanor in the face of criticism.
In response to the ongoing commentary, Peseiro expressed his indifference at the pre-match interview and said, “If it was 20 years ago, it’s possible that fans’ influence would affect me. But at this moment of my career, 63 years old, I’ve taken too much vaccine for good.”
He emphasized the importance of maintaining balance and acknowledged that no coach is exempt from both positive and negative comments.
The experienced coach remains optimistic about the team’s chances in the upcoming quarter-final clash against Angola, considering them as underdogs on paper. With Nigeria being the favorites in the AFCON, Peseiro recognizes that winning the competition would be a significant achievement that could silence his critics.
As the Super Eagles aim for success in the tournament, Peseiro remains focused on the task at hand and aims to lead the team to the semi-finals, potentially turning the tide of public opinion with a strong showing in the competition.
