Super Eagles Coach Praises Uche and Fredrick After Jamaica Win

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has praised Christantus Uche and Benjamin Fredrick after their standout displays in Nigeria’s exciting 5-4 win over Jamaica on Saturday evening.

The match, played at the Gtech Community Stadium, saw both players make their debuts for the Nigerian national team. Uche, aged 22, and Fredrick, 20, were the youngest foreign-based players to feature in the game.

The game ended 2-2 in normal time, with Nigeria eventually coming out on top in the shootout. After the match, Chelle was full of praise for the young stars, saying they made a big difference and showed great promise.

“Uche showed great commitment on the pitch and I’m happy with Fredrick as well,” said the Malian coach.

“I’m proud of the other players too, but I think Uche really deserves his place in the Nigerian team.”

Chelle also praised Fredrick, who plays for Brentford, for his calmness and smart decision-making on the ball.

“Fredrick was very good. I was proud of him,” Chelle added. “He passes strongly and reads the game well, but there is still room for improvement.”

Uche earned his first Super Eagles call-up after a solid season with Getafe in Spain, where he scored four goals and provided six assists in 33 league matches.

Fredrick got his chance after a brilliant campaign with Brentford U21s, helping them win the Premier League 2 title.

With both youngsters impressing on their debut, Coach Chelle will be hoping they continue to grow and play key roles in Nigeria’s journey to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
