Super Eagles depart for Bouake without sick Victor Osimhen

Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen, did not travel with the rest of the Super Eagles as the team left Abidjan for Bouake on Monday night.

The departure was part of the team’s plans for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final clash vs South Africa scheduled for Wednesday, Febuary 7, 2024 .

According to information from the team’s camp, while the majority of the squad boarded a Cote D’Ivoire flight for Bouake, Osimhen was left behind due to experiencing abdominal discomfort.

The Super Eagles’ medical team has confirmed that Osimhen is under close observation, and a member of the medical staff will stay with him in Abidjan.

The statement from the Super Eagles noted, “Team medics confirmed that he has been placed under close watch with a member of the medical team staying behind in Abidjan with him. If cleared by tomorrow morning, he will join the rest of the squad before 5 pm.”

The decision to leave Osimhen behind is likely a precautionary measure to ensure the striker’s well-being and fitness for the crucial semi-final match. If he receives clearance from the medical team, Osimhen is expected to rejoin the squad in Bouake on Tuesday morning.

The absence of the talismanic striker could pose a challenge for the Super Eagles, but the team remains focused on the upcoming match against South Africa as they strive for success in AFCON 2023.

Further checks by SportsRation show, Osimhen will be ready to face South Africa on Wednesday.
