Super Eagles eligible striker Chuba Akpom scores first Ajax goal
Super Eagles of Nigeria eligible striker, Chuba Akpom scored his first Ajax Amsterdam goal in their 2-0 win over FC Volendam.
The England-born Nigerian striker joined Ajax during the summer transfer window and has struggled in front of goal just as the former Eredivise champions endured a strange run.
A run of 10 matches, with eight defeats, led to the sacking of Maurice Steijn as the club manager with John Schip taking over on an interim basis.
Schip’s first game in charge vs FC Volendam produced a 2-0 win with Akpom also taking a positive shift with his first goal for the club.
The 28-year-old former Middlesbrough striker was a super-sub as he came off the pitch to wrap up the win after Steven Bergwijn gave Ajax the lead just before the hour mark.
Akpom is eligible to represent the Super Eagles of Nigeria after switching international allegiance from his country of birth, England .
