Super Eagles goalkeeper coach celebrated in Nasarawa
Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, made a significant announcement on Wednesday, revealing his generous support for Olatunji Baruwa, the goalkeeper coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, who played a pivotal role in the Silver medal finish at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
During a brief reception at the Government House in Lafia, Governor Sule expressed his delight upon discovering that Baruwa, hailing from Osun State, also serves as the goalkeeper trainer for Nasarawa United, a men’s football club owned by the state.
Recalling a memorable encounter during the AFCON final between Nigeria and Ivory Coast, Governor Sule recounted how Baruwa’s affiliation with Nasarawa United and his remarkable coaching skills filled him with immense pride and joy.
He highlighted Baruwa’s instrumental role in the Super Eagles’ journey to the AFCON final, acknowledging him as one of the key factors that kept Nigeria competitive throughout the tournament.
Governor Sule revealed that Baruwa’s exemplary performance has attracted interest from various clubs, emphasizing that excellence deserves recognition and reward.
Expressing his aspirations for the future, Governor Sule expressed hope that Baruwa would contribute to the development of local goalkeepers, enabling them to emulate the success achieved by players like Stanley Nwabali at the AFCON.
In recognition of Baruwa’s selflessness and commitment, Governor Sule pledged to double the financial support he initially intended to offer, ensuring that Baruwa receives due recognition and assistance for his contributions.
Furthermore, Governor Sule extended his support to Nasarawa United’s Supporters’ Club, urging them to sustain their fervor. He reaffirmed his commitment to elevating Nasarawa United to the Premier League in Nigeria and pledged to provide the necessary resources for the club’s success.
Overwhelmed by the Governor’s gesture, Coach Olatunji Baruwa expressed his gratitude for the honor bestowed on him.
