Super Eagles left-back Injured, to miss weeks of action

Super Eagles left-back Zaidu Sanusi suffered injury in FC Porto’s UCL win at Shakthar Donestk in mid-week and will miss action in the coming weeks.

This is according to confirmation by the Portuguese clubs manager, Sergio Conceciao, who said the 26-year old Nigerian defender suffered a muscle injury vs Shakthar Donestk.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria left-back was not available for the last International break as he recovered from another injury.

Sanusi returned to action for the UEFA Champions League game vs Shakhtar Donetsk in Germany but was taken off at halftime, with coach Sergio Conceicao later revealing that he did that as a precautionary measure.

However, Conceicao has now revealed that Sanusi sustained a muscle injury and would be out of action for a few weeks.

” Zaidu(Sanusi) is out and will be out for the next few weeks,” Conceicao said per Sapo.

“It’s a muscle injury. Unfortunately, we have had some problems, like Marcano and Evanilson. We have solutions, and the injury doesn’t change the strategy or the plan.

“We have other players who can fill the position, but of course, I always want everyone available.” Conceciao remarked.

With no specific timeline set for his return, the Super Eagles left-back, could miss another international engagement with Nigeria scheduled to face Saudi Arabia in a friendly game in October.

That game will take place in Portugal , and so the FC Porto man will look to recover in time to be part of the Super Eagles squad for the match in his base.

In his abscence, Boavista of Portugal defender, Bruno Onyeamachi started as left-back for the Super Eagles of Nigeria in their 6-0 spanking of Sao Tome to end AFCON qualification their journey, while Wendell has functioned effectively for FC Porto as he spends time on the treatment table.
