Super Eagles Stay 26th in FIFA Rankings, Drop to Fourth in Africa
The Super Eagles of Nigeria have remained 26th in the latest FIFA Men’s World Rankings released on Monday, SportsRation reports.
However, the Super Eagles have dropped from third to fourth in Africa after Egypt’s strong performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Eric Chelle’s team have 1,585.2 ranking points and remain ahead of Turkey, Australia, Algeria, Canada and Ivory Coast in the world rankings.
Nigeria have not played a competitive match since June, when they lost 2-1 to Portugal in an international friendly.
Egypt moved up to become Africa’s third-ranked team after reaching the Round of 16 at the World Cup, where they lost 3-2 to Argentina.
Morocco remain Africa’s highest-ranked nation after reaching the World Cup quarter-finals and have climbed to sixth in the world. Senegal are still second in Africa despite dropping three places globally, while Algeria are fifth on the continent.
The Super Eagles are now the second-highest-ranked team that failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, behind Denmark, who are ranked 21st in the world.
Nigeria missed the tournament after losing to DR Congo on penalties in the final round of the African playoffs. It is the second consecutive World Cup the Super Eagles have failed to qualify for after also missing the 2022 tournament in Qatar.
At the top of the latest rankings, Spain have returned to world number one after winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Argentina are second, followed by France, England and Brazil in the top five.
The next FIFA Men’s World Rankings will be released on 7 October 2026.
