Super Falcons Beat Comoros 2-0 in Olympic Qualifier

Nigeria’s Super Falcons secured a 2-0 victory over Comoros in the first leg of the second round of the qualifiers for the 2028 Olympic Games.

The match was played at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, with Nigeria designated as the away team because Comoros does not have a stadium approved by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Despite missing key players, including Asisat Oshoala, Oluwatosin Demehin and Ashleigh Plumptre, the Super Falcons delivered a strong performance to take control of the tie.

Nigeria created several chances in the first half but failed to find the back of the net. Rasheedat Ajibade came close to scoring, but her effort struck the woodwork as the first half ended goalless.

The Super Falcons broke the deadlock three minutes into the second half when Michelle Alozie finished from close range after Monday Gift’s header from a corner kick.

Nigeria doubled their lead on the hour mark through Uchenna Kanu, who converted Jennifer Echegini’s quick corner to give the 10-time African champions a comfortable advantage.

The match ended 2-0 in favour of Nigeria, leaving the Super Falcons in a strong position ahead of the return leg.

The second leg will take place on Tuesday at the same venue, with Nigeria looking to secure their place in the next round.

If the Super Falcons progress on aggregate, they will face Morocco in the third round as they continue their quest to qualify for the women’s football event at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
