Super Falcons striker Desire Oparanozie apologizes for penalty miss vs England
Super Falcons striker Desire Oparanozie, has apologized for missing her penalty shootout kick vs England as Nigeria exit the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
After her miss plus that of teammate Michelle Alozie who blazed her attempt over the crossbar, Nigeria suffered a 2-4 defeat to England via penalty shootout in the Round of 16 clash on Monday August 7.
Hours after the game in Brisbane Australia, veteran Super Falcons striker Desire Oparanozie shared a picture of herself in tears on her Instagram account with a message of and apology for disappointed fans.
She wrote, “Sad day! Very disappointing to have lost through penalties, and even more disappointing not to have converted mine. And for this I deeply apologize..”
After defeating a resilient Nigerian team on penalties, England have reached the quarterfinals of the Women’s World Cup and will push their ambition to win a first ever FIFA Women’s World Cup title.
