Super Falcons wallop Queensland Lions in tune-up friendly
Oshoala nets as Nigeria put eight past Australian club-side
Super Falcons were red-hot as they trounced Australian club Queensland Lions FC in their only pre-tournament friendly heading into the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The Nigerian ladies claimed an 8-1 win over their opponents in the game.
FC Barcelona Femeni striker Asisat Oshoala quelled any fears surrounding her fitness heading into the tournament by scoring a brace for the side, with Atletico Madrid Femeni midfielder Rasheedat Ajibade also registering on the scoresheet.
US-based striker Ifeoma Onumonu got in on the act, as did Spain-based Gift Monday and Toni Payne with a goal apiece. Uchenna Kanu and Halimatu Ayinde scored the two other goals for the Super Falcons as they cruised to a win in the friendly encounter.
Randy Waldrum’s team will open their account in the competition on Friday against Canada.
