Taiwan Open: Williams to meet Doi in the final
Venus Williams moved into the final of the Taiwan Open courtesy of a 7-5 6-3 win over Yulia Putintseva on Saturday.
The American hit six aces and saved a total of six break points in a match that lasted one hour, 42 minutes.
Williams won 85 per cent of points from her first serve in the opening set but Putintseva forced her all the way in twelve games.
However, Williams took control in the second set of the semi-final and will now meet Misaki Doi in the decider.
Doi secured her place in the final as she eased past Hsieh Su-wei 6-0 6-2 earlier in the day.
The Japanese needed just under an hour to complete the win over her Taiwanese opponent.
Doi won five break points on her way to victory as she looks to secure a second WTA career title.
Williams, 35, will be playing for her 49th career title.
