Taiwo Awoniyi confident Nottingham Forest will not be relegated

Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi, has predicted Nottingham Forest Premier League safety amidst their battle to avoid relegation from the English top-flight.

The 26-year-old forward has been limited to just twelve starts in a Forest shirt this season due to a recurrent groin problem that kept him out of Nigeria’s AFCON 2023 campaign in Ivory Coast.

The Super Eagles striker scored six goals in Nottingham Forest’s final four league games last season to help them secure top-flight status. This season, he returned from injury just in time to conjg, tribute to the team’s 3-1 victory over Sheffield United.

Awoniyi came on in the 87th minute yesterday but was unable to help Nottingham clinch a point against Chelsea, as Nuno Espirito Santo’s men fell to a 3-2 loss.

On the other hand, West Ham’s win over Luton Town was a relief for Forest fans, giving them hope that they’ll remain in the English top-flight competition next season. The former Union Berlin striker shares this optimism.

“I think for us, we’ll be there. We’ll be in the Premier League next season, but the most important thing is to win the next game,” the former Liverpool striker said just outside the City Ground after the Chelsea game.

Speaking about his future with the club, with a shy smile on his face, Awoniyi appeared unsure about playing for Nottingham Forest next season.

“That’s a tough one, but I’m still under contract with Nottingham Forest and I’m here. So for now, I’m a Nottingham Forest player,” the Nigerian forward added.

Luton Town will have to score twelve goals against Fulham in their final league game and hope that Forest falls to a defeat against Burnley if they’re to have any hope of remaining in the English Premier League next season.
