Taiwo Awoniyi SCORES his first goal of the season as Forest beat Wolves
Taiwo Awoniyi came off the bench to score his first goal of the season and help Nottingham Forest secure a 3-0 victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux. This was Awoniyi’s 13th substitute appearance in 15 Premier League matches this season, and his late goal, in the 90+4 minute, capped off a strong team performance.
Awoniyi, who was subbed on in the 88th minute for Chris Wood, scored his first Premier League goal since February last year, when he found the net in a 2-0 win over West Ham United. The Nigerian striker had been reduced to a bit-part role this season due to the impressive form of Wood, who has netted 12 goals for Forest. However, Awoniyi’s goal marked a timely return to the scoresheet.
This goal brings Awoniyi’s total Premier League goals to 17, moving him ahead of Odion Ighalo (16) into 11th place on Nigeria’s all-time top scorers’ list in the competition.
In addition to Awoniyi’s contribution, his compatriot Ola Aina continued his excellent form for Nottingham Forest, making his 20th consecutive Premier League start. Aina has been a key performer in Forest’s defense, helping them secure their sixth consecutive league win.
Nottingham Forest’s six-match winning streak is the longest of any team in the Premier League this season. This victory also marked their first six-match winning run in the top-flight since 1967, and their best since 1979. The win pushed Forest into third place in the Premier League, level on points with second-placed Arsenal, and four points ahead of fourth-placed Chelsea, strengthening their hopes of a top-four finish.
