´Taking on all bums´, Tyson Fury targets May comeback

Tyson Fury has stated his intention to return to boxing in May after giving up his heavyweight world titles and being suspended by the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) last year.

Fury stunned the boxing world when he defeated Wladimir Klitschko to claim the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO crowns in November 2015.

He was stripped of the IBF title for failing to grant a fight against mandatory challenger Vyacheslav Glazkov and then twice withdrew from a rematch with Klitschko, before failing a drugs test and voluntarily vacating his WBA, WBO, and IBO belts.

On Monday Fury, whose licence was suspended in October 2016, claimed he plans to return to the ring in just over two months.

In a message posted on Twitter, he said: “Breaking news” Return of the MAC, may 13th, working on an opponent more news to follow…”

In a separate post, he said: “I’m taking on all bums, Keep my belts warm guys as they belong to the king – who ever got my belts I’m coming for you! Big or small.”

His promoter Frank Warren added: “The man who ended Klitschko’s reign. The Real Heavyweight King is coming back for his crown #GypsyKing…”

Joseph Parker now holds the WBO title and will defend it against Tyson’s cousin Hughie Fury in May, while Anthony Joshua, owner of the IBF crown, will attempt to claim the vacant WBA (Super) and IBO belts by beating Klitschko in April.

Fury’s status, meanwhile, remains unclear , the BBBoC having suspended his licence “pending further investigation into anti-doping and medical issues”.

After admitting to using cocaine during a struggle with depression, Fury last year said: “I won the titles in the ring and I believe that they should be lost in the ring, but I’m unable to defend at this time and I have taken the hard and emotional decision to now officially vacate my treasured world titles and wish the next in-line contenders all the very best as I now enter another big challenge in my life which I know, like against Klitschko, I will conquer.”
