Thiago Silva in Tears as Fluminense Reach Club World Cup Quarter-Finals
Fluminense defender Thiago Silva was emotional after helping his team reach the FIFA Club World Cup quarter-finals on Monday.
The 40-year-old played the full match as the Brazilian side defeated Inter Milan 2-0 in a historic win.
Fluminense got off to a fast start, scoring in the third minute when German Cano headed in a deflected cross.
Later in the second half, substitute Hercules sealed the win with a second goal.
After the final whistle, Silva was seen crying before going to the stands to kiss his wife, Isabele.
Speaking to DAZN after the match, he said: “I’m very proud of my team and my team-mates. It was very hard playing against Inter. They played in the Champions League final just a month ago. It’s not easy to play at this level.”
Silva’s passion and experience helped guide Fluminense to a famous win and a place in the next round.
