Three-time ITTF Africa Cup champion Olufunke Oshaniake loses crown to Dina Meshref, Quadri claims first ITTF Africa title

Nigeria’s Olufunke Oshonaike has lost her ITTF Africa title crown to Egypt’s Dina Meshref at the 2017 ITTF Africa in Morocco.

Olufunke Oshonaike entered the final yesterday trying to defend her title and looking to win the title for the fourth time having won in 1992, 2012 and 2016 but Dina Meshref was too strong for the veteran.

The 41-year-old had no troubles against Egypt’s HELMY Yousra who she took a part 4-0 in the semi-final only to lose by the same margin in the final against number one ranked Dina Meshref.

In the men’s final, Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri won his first ever ITTF Africa title by dethroning Omar Assar.

Aruna Quadri had lost all of his previous games against the 2016 and two-time African champion but last night at Agadir in Morocco he rewrote history.

By virtue of his victory, Aruna Quadri will represent Africa at ITTF world in France.
