Tobi Amusan and Favour Ofili have won multiple medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham after helping Team Nigeria secure a gold medal in the women’s 4x100m relay.
After her record-breaking 100m hurdle run, Tobi Amusan was drafted into the 4x100m relay team and the decision was fruitful.
Tobi who won the 100m hurdle with a Commonwealth Games record time of 12.30 was drafted into the team in place of Joy Udo-Gabriel.
She started the race and handed over the baton to 200m silver medalist Favour Ofili who handed it over to Rosemary Chukwuma and Grace Nwokocha powered home Nigeria to the gold medal.
Nigeria finished the race with an African record of 42.10s.
The victory makes is two gold medals for Tobi Amusan, a gold and silver for Favour Ofili.
The men also claimed a bronze medal in the 4x100m – just as in the women, Udodi Onwuzuruike was drafted to replace Seye Ogunlewe.
Udodi Onwuzuruike started the race, hand the baton to Favour Ashe, and then Alaba Akintola handed to Raymond Ekevwo who anchored Nigeria to a bronze medal.
With the morning wins, team Nigeria now have 33 medals
