Tobi Amusan Proud to Represent Nigeria After World Championship Silver

Tobi Amusan says she feels proud and honoured to represent Nigeria after winning a silver medal in the women’s 100m hurdles at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
Amusan ran a strong race on Monday afternoon, finishing second with a time of 12.29 seconds. She came just behind Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji, who won gold in a national-record time of 12.24 seconds. American Grace Stark took the bronze in 12.34 seconds.
After the race, Amusan, who won gold at the 2022 World Championships, shared her feelings about wearing Nigeria’s colours on the world stage.
“This is bigger than me,” she said. “I come out here and do what I have to do for myself and my country. I’m glad that anytime I come out to a championship — win or lose — I still show up.”
Her silver medal is Nigeria’s first at the World Championships in three years and adds to her growing legacy in sprint hurdling.
Amusan has been one of the most consistent hurdlers in the world and continues to inspire young athletes across Nigeria and Africa.
Now, she will look ahead to her next races as she keeps pushing for more success.
