Tobi Amusan reveals $50k loan, injury and early career struggles

Tobi Amusan was recently decorated with a national award of Officer of the Order of Niger award by President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria but her prior to the recent successes, the athlete had struggling moments

The Women 100 meters hurdle world record holder shared her early career struggles in a chat with BRL as she enjoys her holiday from a hectic season.

Amusan narrated her struggle for funds to boost her career which prompted her to take a $50,000 loan plus injury on a couple of occasions in her journey to the top.

“Yeah that’s true because I got injured a couple of times, so there was so much I needed to do when it came to my health as a pro athlete and staying on top of my game required a lot of funding.” Amusan narrated .

In recognition of her breathrough season and historic Gold medal win at the World Athletics Championship,  President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday September 15, 2022 hosted Amusan and other medals winners at the World Athletics Championship and Commonwealth games.

At the Ceremony, the President decorated Amusan and 3 others with national merit awards plus a cash reward of 200 million naira for making the country proud.

“It’s a great feeling that we are being recognized by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Amusan reacted to the President’s gesture.

“In as much as we did the work it’s an honour that they took accountability and recognized the fact that we made the nation proud and was such a great feeling getting the title. ” She concluded.

With her new profile, Tobi Amusan acknowledged the stake will be higher on the track against other athletes but is focused on keeping keeping her standard high and always competing to bring the best out of herself
