Tokyo 2020: Uninspiring Super Falcons Crash Out

The Super Falcons of Nigeria will for the third consecutive time not be featuring at the Olympic games womens football event after a 1-1 draw with the Les Femelles Elephantes of Cote d’Ivoire at the Agege Stadium this Monday.

With the second round, first leg match ending goalless in Abidjan on Thursday, Chris Danjuma led side knew only a win will guarantee progress into the final round of the qualifiers.

Playing at the Agege stadium and led by team captain, Asisat Oshoala, the team found themselves a goal down just inside 15mins as Kapho Nina scored from a beautiful free kick for Ivory Coast.

Oshoala however got the Falcons back in the game just after the half hour mark when she raced into the area and fired past the goalkeeper to level score for the Super Falcons.

The ladies couldn’t get the all important goal in the second half as the visitors frustrated their host all game thus advancing on the away goal rule to send Nigeria crashing out.
