Tolu Arokodare Gives Ajax Advantage Against Sion

Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare came off the bench to score and provide an assist as Ajax beat FC Sion 4-2 in Switzerland on Thursday evening.
The result gives Ajax a strong advantage ahead of the second leg in Amsterdam next week, with the Dutch side now in a good position to reach the main draw of the Conference League.
Sion took the lead when Franck Surdez turned a low cross into the far corner after Ajax had missed several chances.
Ajax responded after the break. Julian Brandt levelled with a fine finish before Marcos Leonardo headed the visitors into a 2-1 lead.
Sion were awarded a penalty with 20 minutes remaining after a foul in the box, and Ilyas Chouaref converted to make it 2-2.
However, Arokodare quickly restored Ajax’s lead.
The Nigerian striker, who had come on as a substitute, rose to head the ball past the Sion goalkeeper from a good distance to make it 3-2.
Arokodare then turned provider late in the game. He played the ball behind the Sion defence for Davy Klaassen, who calmly finished one-on-one with the goalkeeper to seal a 4-2 victory.
The win puts Ajax in an excellent position going into the return leg in Amsterdam on 27 August.
