Top clubs linked with Lionel Messi who reportedly earns N501m a week

Top European clubs have been linked with a move for Lionel Messi who has told Barcelona he wants out of the club.

The Argentine and football super star reportedly told The Catalan giants that he would longer be part of the club going forward after spending more than 15 years at the club.

With the news of his imminent departure, top European clubs are already trying their luck with the Argentine.

Some of the clubs reportedly vying for his signature are Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, Manchester United, Juventus, Chelsea, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Arsenal.

Paris Saint-Germain coach, Thomas Tuchel revealed the door is opened should Lionel Messi decide to link up with his former Barcelona teammates Neymar Jr.

“What coach says no to Messi?” Tuchel told BT Sport. “I think Messi finishes his career in Barcelona. He is Mr Barcelona.”

Manchester City are said to be leading the chase for his signature because of Lionel Messi’s relationship with Pep Guardiola their coach.

Chelsea and Manchester United are the other clubs linked with a move for the player arguably regarded as the best player to ever kicked the round leather ball.

There is a clause in Lionel Messi’s contract that would allow him join any club on free transfer but his weekly wages could be a big issue.

As he reportedly earns 60,395,769 euro basic yearly wages (£988,000 a week), £9,100,000 per year on image rights, £13,000,000 a year on possible bonuses plus signing on & loyalty fee (£120,000,000 over 5 years).

£988,000 a week (N501m) is a lot of money but some of the above mentioned could pay the fee.

For example, Paris Saint-Germain top earner, Neymar Jr. earns £600,000-a-week, Manchester City top earner Kevin De Bruyne earns £350,000 a week, Manchester United top earner David de Gea earns £375,000, while Chelsea’s top earner Ngolo Kante gets £150,000.

Arsenal’s top earner is Mesut Ozil who earns £350,000 a week, Juventus top earner is Cristiano Ronaldo who gets £1m a week.
