Tornadoes 2 Sunshine 1: Ojo Olorunleke heroics not enough for The ‘Owena Waves

Ojo Olorunleke saved two penalties either half but it was not enough to save Sunshine Stars from going down 2-1 to Niger Tornadoes at the Confluence Stadium in Lokoja on Sunday.

Going into the weekend tie, Niger Tornadoes had a record of 62 home games without a defeat and were looking to make it 63 without defeat.

Their pursuit for another unbeaten home game got a huge boost when they were awarded a penalty in the 4th minute of the game, Ojo Olorunleke guessed correctly to parry Okoye’s spot kick to safety.

There was no denying them on the 47th minute at the start of the second half when Gabriel Jeremiah headed in Lukas Yahaya’s long throw-in to give Niger Tornadoes the lead.

In the 65th minutes Niger Tornadoes were awarded another penalty and a chance to increase their tally but once again Ojo Olorunleke saved the spot kick, this time Sadiq Suleiman took the penalty.

Shortly after the penalty saved by Olorunleke, Kehinde Adedipe went on a solo run into Tornadoes box and his thunderous shot went past Aliko in goal for Tornadoes to make it 1-1.

With time winding up and it was almost going to be Olorunleke’s day, Lukas Yahaya thunderous strike in the 92nd minutes earned the maximum points for the Ikon Allah.

The victory takes Niger Tornadoes to the 4th spot on the log with 24 points from 15 games while Sunshine Stars are 18th on the log with 15poi’nts from 14 games.
