Tottenham don´t want to be that team – Kane vows to stop Chelsea´s history bid

Harry Kane says Tottenham are determined not to let Chelsea set a new Premier League record when the sides meet at White Hart Lane on Wednesday.

Table-toppers Chelsea come into the clash on the back of 13 consecutive victories, a run that matches Arsenal’s sequence for wins in a single season from 2001-02.

That run, which also includes a 2-1 success over Spurs at Stamford Bridge in November, has seen Antonio Conte’s side open up a five-point lead ahead of Liverpool at the summit.

Spurs are five points further adrift in fifth, and Kane says there is a focus among his team-mates to put an end to their visitors’ record.

“We definitely don’t want to be the team that lets Chelsea break that record,” said the striker.

“Of course, we know that’s in our mind, we were just talking about it there in the changing room.

“We don’t want to be that team they break the record against so we’re fully focused. It’s going to be a great game and we’re excited for it.”

Last season Chelsea fought back for a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge that ended Tottenham’s title tilt and handed the trophy to Leicester City, but Kane believes Spurs are a stronger proposition eight months on.

“I think we’re a better team now, 100 per cent,” he said. “I think we’re four or five points better off than at this stage last season and we’ve probably not played as well as we did last season either.

“It shows we’re on the right track. A lot of us are bigger, stronger, better and more experienced so hopefully we can continue that through the second half of the season.”
